What is a Bioswale?
Our bioswales are more than just pretty landscaping features! These green infrastructure projects reduce stormwater runoff, help recharge the Chicot Aquifer, improve the quality of runoff, and provide a habitat for our pollinator friends.
Currently, there are two bioswales on campus. The first one was established in 2016 between Burke-Hawthorne and Wharton. The second bioswale between Madison and Oliver was created in 2017 and in 2018 we added native cajun prairie plants and wildflowers to turn it into an urban prairie right in the middle of campus!
