What is a Bioswale?

Blair Begnaud -- Tue, 08/28/2018 - 3:12pm

Our bioswales are more than just pretty landscaping features! These green infrastructure projects reduce stormwater runoff, help recharge the Chicot Aquifer, improve the quality of runoff, and provide a habitat for our pollinator friends

Currently, there are two bioswales on campus as part of the Office of Sustainability's strategic plan to reduce potable water usage on campus by 10%. The first one was established in 2016 between Burke-Hawthorne and Wharton. The second bioswale between Madison and Oliver was created in 2017 and in 2018 we added native wildflowers to turn it into an urban prairie right in the middle of campus!
