Did you know there are numerous innovative and impactful sustainability initiatives and projects coming from Acadiana’s environmental businesses, UL Lafayette, non-profits and government organizations?

Each organization is working in various sustainability topics centered around landscapes/ habitats/ watersheds, saving rare native species, clean energy, materials management, environmental governance, recreation, providing community access to food, clothing, feminine products, books, shelter, and advocates for a cleaner Acadiana.

Consider getting involved with these organizations who are working to make postive changes in Lafayette and Acadiana: 

  • Backyard Sapphire started glass recycling in Lafayette after the state stopped accepting glass recycling
  • Acadiana Native Plant Project– Advocating for native plants
  • Urban Naturalist – Advocating for native plants
  • Lafayette Parish Master Gardeners
  • Lafayette Garden Club
  • Society for Louisiana Irises (SLI) + Louisiana Iris Conservation Initiative – Protecting the rare Iris Nelsonii, one of 5 native Louisiana irises that only grows in Acadiana. 
  • Louisiana Wildlife Federation- advocating at the state level for the environment safety for people and wildlife
  • UL’s Part Lab studying solar and holding workplace training for the alternative energy field
  • Bayou Vermilion Preservation Association
  • Louisiana Watershed Initiative
  • Teche Vermilion Water District
  • Bayou Vermilion District
  • Second Harvest Food Bank
  • Community Fridges + Food Pantries
  • UL Lafayette Campus Cupboard and Career Closet

  • Cajun Prairie Seed Bank at the UL Ecology Center to bring back the Cajun Prairie which only has 100 acres of remnant Cajun prairies
