BeauSoleil Home
The Office of Sustainability oversees the Beausoleil solar home, which the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Architecture Department designed and built for the 2009 Solar Decathlon hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy. The house is a hybrid structure that combines Louisiana culture and lifestyle with modern sustainable technology. BeauSoleil, at its core, is a home for cooking, entertaining, and socializing — which is what we do best in Louisiana — and is completely powered by the sun. Even the name BeauSoleil stems from the Cajun French word "sunshine." The BeauSoleil team did a wonderful job of merging culture and technology making the house a place you would want to call home. For these efforts the team took first place in People's Choice and Market Viability.
The home is open for tours; please check the website for details and come visit us at BeauSoleil, the home for campus sustainability.
