Changes to campus wide recycling program
Tue, 09/30/2014 - 3:17pmThe Office of Sustainability is thrilled to announce the University's recycling rate has exceeded the capacity of our current system. As of October 1, 2014, we will be transitioning into a new collection system that will be better serve the University and allow us to continue expanding our recycling program into classrooms and building lobbies. Recycled materials will still be collected from Geaux R.E.D. bags in faculty and staff offices by our custodian service. However, the recycled materials will no longer be thrown into the "blue carts". The custodian staff will be responsible for bringing all recycled materials to new dumpsters that will be co-located with each trash dumpster. The blue carts will be removed from campus starting October 1.
Important tips to ensure this program continues to grow:
- We utilize a single-stream recycling system on campus. Please, recycle all paper, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and cardboard. There is no need to sort!
- Avoid contaminating the recycling stream by keeping all food waste out of recycling bags, bins, and dumpsters.
- If you need new recycling bags, please contact the Office of Sustainability.
- We appreciate your effort in making this program successful and in setting a great example for our students!
